Here's the direct answer: a good smart home setup visit is a walkthrough of your home, a Wi-Fi check, installation and configuration of your devices, consolidation of everything into apps you'll actually use, a quick training session, and a final test of every device before we leave. Most visits run one to three hours depending on how many devices are involved. No mystery, no upsell theater.
Maybe you've been putting off a smart home installation because you don't know what to expect. Maybe a tech once mounted a camera, handed you a box of manuals, and left. Either way, here's exactly how a visit with us goes, step by step.
We start by walking the home with you. You tell us what you want: "I want to see the front door from my phone," "I want the TV on the wall without cables showing," "I want the lights to turn off when we leave." We look at where devices will go, what's near them (outlets, studs, wall material), and flag anything that changes the plan. In Tampa Bay that often means block walls, stucco exteriors, or stone fireplace surrounds, all doable, all worth knowing about before the drill comes out.
This takes 10–15 minutes and it's where most surprises get eliminated.
This is the one that matters most, and it's the one most installers skip entirely.
Every smart device (camera, doorbell, plug, thermostat) is only as reliable as the Wi-Fi at its exact location. A video doorbell doesn't care that your Wi-Fi is great on the couch; it cares about the signal at your front door. We measure signal strength at every spot where a device is going. If the signal is weak, we tell you before we install anything, because a camera on bad Wi-Fi becomes an "offline" notification generator within a week.
Sometimes the fix is simple: repositioning your router. Sometimes the honest answer is that you need mesh coverage first, and we'll explain exactly why. Either way, you find out at the start of the visit, not after everything's mounted. Read more about how we handle Wi-Fi & networking.
Then we do the actual work: mounting, wiring devices to your network where it makes sense, and configuring each one. That might be security cameras positioned to cover the driveway without pointing into your neighbor's yard, a video doorbell angled correctly for Florida sun glare, a TV mounted level with cables managed, or smart locks and thermostats paired and named sensibly ("Front Door," not "Device_4A2F").
We work with equipment you already bought, or we can recommend and supply gear that fits your home and budget. If you bought a camera kit on Prime Day and it's still in the box, that's fine. That's most of our visits.
Smart home frustration usually isn't the devices. It's having seven apps. During setup we consolidate wherever possible: getting devices into a shared ecosystem (Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home), setting up the self-monitoring apps for your cameras and doorbell, and configuring notifications so your phone alerts you about a person at the door, not every palm frond that blows past.
One note for clarity: we set up self-monitoring, alerts and live video to your phone. We don't operate a 24/7 monitoring center. If you want professional monitoring, that's a subscription through your device brand, and we'll happily configure your system so it's ready for it.
Before we pack up, we walk you through everything on your phone, not ours. How to pull up a camera, answer the doorbell, adjust a schedule, add a family member to the app. We keep it short and practical: 10 minutes, not a lecture. If your spouse or kids will use it too, get them in the room for this part.
Last step: we test every device, live, with you watching. Ring the doorbell and answer it from your phone. Walk in front of each camera and confirm the alert fires. Lock and unlock the smart lock from the app. Nothing is "done" until you've seen it work yourself.
Five things that make the visit faster:
We're direct about our limits:
For market context: premium integrators in the Tampa area often charge $59–$149/month in ongoing support plans, and typical local labor runs $150–$200 for a drywall TV mount, around $300 for stone or brick, and roughly $100 per camera in labor. We'd rather set your system up right, teach you to run it yourself, and be the number you call when you add to it. That's our whole model for smart home services.
We serve Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Lakeland, 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday. Tell us what you've got (or what you're thinking about buying) and we'll tell you exactly what a visit would look like.

Most single visits run one to three hours. A doorbell plus two or three cameras is usually about two hours; a TV mount adds roughly an hour. Larger whole-home projects may be split across visits, and we'll tell you upfront.
No. We work with equipment you already own, or we can recommend and supply devices that fit your home and budget. If you're unsure what to buy, ask before purchasing. We'll steer you away from gear that won't play well together.
We do, and that's most of the value of the visit. We configure every device in your apps, consolidate them into one ecosystem where possible, tune notifications, and train you on your own phone before we leave.
